Privacy
Last updated: 2026-10-01. This covers mockfreeli.org and the Mockfreeli Chrome extension.
What we receive
When you ask for cousins, on the site or with the extension's button, we receive the YouTube video you asked about (its video id). The extension also sends its version number. Nothing is sent until you click. The extension does not read or send your watch history, other pages, or anything about your Google account.
Like any website, our hosting (Cloudflare, then our own servers) sees your IP address and browser type while it delivers the request.
What we do with it
- To compare a song with our catalog, our server briefly retrieves a few short excerpts of the video's audio, about ten seconds each, computes a numerical similarity profile from them in memory, and discards the excerpts as soon as that computation finishes. No copy of the audio is kept, played, or made available to anyone, and the song is never redistributed. The excerpts exist only long enough to produce the recommendation.
- For public videos we keep the outcome of that comparison: the video id, its publicly listed title and channel, and the five catalog tracks we recommended. This lets the next person who asks about the same video get an instant answer, and gives each result a shareable page. The stored outcome contains no audio and nothing about you. Outcomes for unlisted or private videos are never stored.
- To protect the service from overload, your IP address is held in memory for roughly one minute to apply a per-visitor rate limit, then discarded. IP addresses are not written to our logs.
- We keep daily aggregate counts of page visits and shares. These counts contain no IP addresses, cookies, or browser details.
What we don't do
- No accounts, no advertising, no selling or sharing of data, no cross-site tracking.
- The extension stores nothing in your browser and sets no cookies.
Content and rights
Mockfreeli does not host, stream, or distribute the song you search with. It recommends tracks from the Internet Archive, NoCopyrightSounds and the YouTube Audio Library, each shown with the license its source declares. If you hold rights in a video and prefer it not be used as a search seed, email [email protected] and we will exclude it and remove its result page.
Third parties
Requests pass through Cloudflare. Result artwork and the searched video's thumbnail load from YouTube's and the Internet Archive's image servers.
Chrome Web Store limited use
The use of information received from the extension adheres to the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
